Barcelona Grec Festival has this year worked together with the city’s factories of creativity.
Creator, choreographer, interpreter and pedagogue Nuria Legarda, in her premiere residency at the Grec Festival Barcelona, examines the construction of identity in relation to the mechanisms of power, and questions to what extent this theme has been perpetual in our history. Applying both physical and textual work to a set, made up of varying supports of different materials onto which she projects; she plays with distortion and alteration of image. Using a contrasting mix of Shakespeare’s texts (extracts which exemplify best the hegemonic discourse), with autobiographical text devised by the creative team, World of Wolves workshop visits issues of femininity and masculinity in a capitalist system in which the female archetype is led to a continuous fall. Immortal symbol: Ophelia’s Death.
Legarda’s work as a choreographer or director of movement includes The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Midnight, directed by Julio Manrique in Teatre Lliure; Lehman Brothers, directed by Roberto Romei in La Villarroel (Grec 2016); And Don Joan directed by David Selvas in the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.
